The proposed project involves reconfiguring existing travel lanes along Ramona Boulevard (between Santa Anita Avenue and Tyler Avenue) and Tyler Avenue (between Ramona Boulevard and Santa Anita Avenue) to install buffered bicycle lanes, high-visibility pedestrian crosswalks, bus platforms, and bicycle turn boxes, connecting the El Monte Transit Station and the Tyler Avenue Metrolink Station.
Ganddini Group prepared a traffic operations analysis, including microsimulation modeling and travel-time studies, to evaluate the impact of the proposed lane reconfiguration on intersection and roadway segment levels of service, as well as queuing near the at-grade rail crossing on Tyler Avenue.
The study found intersections would continue operating at LOS C or better with only minor increases in delay, and confirmed that vehicle queues would not interfere with the at-grade rail crossing.
The bicycle lane improvements have since been completed and are open, connecting cyclists and transit riders in El Monte’s downtown area to both the bus and Metrolink stations.
